say hello to my little friend

I mentioned a few weeks ago in a post that I went to the Dermatologist to get a mole check. Well, it turns out the 2 out of the 4 moles I had removed were "questionable". The doctor described them as dysplasia - irregular cell formation. Ugh! Basically areas with dysplasia can develop into melanoma, so I am glad I got it checked when I did. It's all about early detection! Now I have to go back to the Derm and get the some additional skin around those sites removed, just to make sure they got it all. I am dreading having this done, so my mommy has agreed to come along to my appointment for moral support.

I typically use sunblock when I am spending time out in the sun, but not on a day-to-day basis, so now I'll be changing that. The Florida sun exposure seems more intense than in other areas, so I need to be extra careful. If you don't already use sunblock daily, I hope you'll learn from my mistakes, and start!

  1. I've never commented on your blog before - but love it :) We tend to like similar things, and coincidentally I'm having 4 moles removed on Monday (I live in FL too) - did it hurt? I think I've completely psyched myself up for huge amts of pain.

  2. No, it didn't hurt at all. It's just a little weird. They give you an numbing shot in the area, then shave it off. It's not the most pleasant thing to have done, but it's better than melanoma! Good luck with yours!

  3. hello little friend! ;)

i'm so glad you went into the derm and had everything checked out. i'm really glad the scraping didn't hurt, sure sounds like it would.

not sure what kind of make-up you wear, but clinique is derm approved and has an appropriate amount of sunblock already in it. that way you can still wear makeup without the extra greasy glow of sunblock.

  5. I'm glad you got them checked out & you've inspired me to get a check too. Haven't made an appointment yet but it's on my to-do list. I wear lotion with an spf 15 on a day-to-day basis & my facial moisturizer has an spf 15 as well. I am SO anti-sun!

  6. Hannah goes to the derm next week to get her mole checked out. It isn't sun related but maybe you could talk her through if she needs it removed. Ian is having his warts looked at but ugh!
