{Baby Food Recipes} Cauliflower & Cheesy Spinach

IMG_6802

Greetings from Baby Food Making Central!

I just whipped up a nice batch of baby food cauliflower and cheddar spinach!  Yum!  Doesn’t that sound great?  It was SO easy; here’s what you do…

Start off by boiling your water, then wash and chop up the cauliflower.  Toss them in the boiling water for about 15-20 minutes, or until soft enough to cut with a spoon.  Scoop them out of the pot with a slated spoon and into your blender.

Blend until you get the consistency that your baby will like.  Taylor is kind of a stage 2 girl now, so I don’t mind if there are a few small chunks.  If you’d like to make your cauliflower (or any veggie for that matter) creamier, add a couple ounces of formula or breast milk as you are blending.

Plop a large spoon full into your ice cube trays, cover and freeze.

Once the cubes are good and frozen, pop them out of the trays, bag them up, and don’t forget to label them.  I always add a ‘use by date’ on my storage bags for 2 months out.

Next up, Cheesy Spinach!

For spinach, you only need a little bit of boiling water.  Add the spinach and it will cook down really quickly.  IMG_6807

After about 5 minutes, it should be ready to blend.  Scoop the spinach out of the water with a slated spoon.  It will full of water, so leave as much behind as you can.

If this is the first time your baby is trying spinach, I don’t recommend you add the cheddar cheese.  Since I’ve had Taylor try some cheeses now and I know she tolerates them well, I thought she’d enjoy this.  I just topped the warm spinach with shredded cheddar.  Once it melted most of the way, I covered the trays and froze.

I also made baby food blueberries!  She is going to LOVE these!  I am going to mix these with plain yogurt, apples, or serve plain.

  1. I realize that it is none of my business but just wanted to ask if your husband was still in the picture? I haven't seen him on the blog and was just curious if I accidentally skipped a post!

  3. I think you are absolutely amazing Lauren, the food you are preparing for Taylor is amazing and so good for her. Just wondering are you a single mum now? I know it's nosey but can you put it out there so we know, we have heard lots in your life that is very personal so I think you can tell us why Josh disappered.

Taylor is one very lucky girl to have you as a mum.

  4. I think it's amazing that you make baby food for Taylor! I hope to be able to do that some day. Taylor is so adorable! I know it's none of my business what people comment, but I really felt the need to respond to the comments above. Do not feel like you need to respond. I do think it is very inappropriate to ask about your personal life that you are obviously not wanting to share, regardless of how "sincere" they are trying to sound. I think most of your readers could say we want the best for you and for you to be happy. We are glad to read about your updates with Taylor, but don't EXPECT you to post about your personal life. I wish you the best. Kim
